ABSTRACT

The need to improve the quality of water in the metropolitan area Galati-Braila is the direct result of Romania’s engagement to comply with the European legislation regarding the continuous monitoring of water quality through the permanent control of the bacterial and physical-chemical parameters, not only in the water destined for human consumption, but also in the water drained in the rivers of the region. The water needed for the urban area Galati-Braila comes from the Danube, and in this geographical segment, it presents little variations in the number of small particles of insoluble mineral and organic substances found in suspension. These particles can determine the appearance and the development of pathogen germs. Thus, the monitoring processes of water quality, as well as the type of process required for the treatment of water to make it either drinkable or safe to be drained, are part of the global task to improve the quality of life and the quality of the environment. Making sure that water is safe is crucial for improving the environment affected, in this area, by the naval shipyard, agriculture and zootechny. Agriculture and zootechny are mainly and directly responsible for the concentration of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in this region.
