ABSTRACT
The economic development of our country depends on the increase in per capita income. Therefore, the sectors that contribute to country value-added should be supported. Export percentages are very important to identify those sectors.
Therefore, in this study, export percentages were evaluated at Mediterranean region, especially in the cities of Antalya, Burdur and Isparta in which marble mining takes commonly place. The export percentages of marble mining sector at the region are also important to reveal the trade relationship among the world’s countries. When our country’s export data examined, our first ten cities are Istanbul, Denizli, Izmir, Afyon, Antalya, Burdur, Bursa, Ankara, Diyarbakır and Isparta respectively. It was identified that grand total export amount of all cities is 7.947.146.410,07 kg as of 2013 and 7.228.778.609,91 kg as of 2014. The variance of export amount is -9,04%. The grand total export amount for the first 9 months of the year 2014 is 5.625.781.052,47 kg and that of the year 2015 is 4.799.724.070,00 kg and the variance is -14,68%. At 2013 and 2014, the cities of Antalya and Isparta (except Burdur), that take place within first ten cities, displayed generally similar situations with other cities and their export income decreased. In spite of these decay rates, the cities of Antalya, Isparta and Burdur had considerable amount of export income at 2013 and 2014 (e.g. 299.626.696,38 USD at 2013 and 319.020.504,20 USD at 2014) and contribute significantly to national economy.
As of the year 2015, it was thought that marble mining sector will become narrow and export percentages will decrease. Therefore, strategic remedial measures have urgently to be taken.
