PLATINUM METAL, GOLD AND SILVER SECONDARY DISPERSION HALOS OF THE SVETLOBORSKY DUNITE-CLINOPYROXENITE MASSIF FROM THE PLATINUM BELT OF THE URALS

ABSTRACT

The Svetloborsky dunite-clinopyroxenite massif of the Platinum belt of the Urals is almost entirely covered by eluvial-deluvial sediments, which makes it difficult to search for platinum metal mineralization in primary dunites. Lithogeochemical survey of soil-forming eluvial-deluvial sediments was conducted to identify and outline of the platinum anomalies. According to the results of lithogeochemical survey secondary dispersion haloes of palladium, gold, chromium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and other rare elements, besides platinum anomalies, were revealed. According to the results of multivariate statistics, the following associations are distinguished: Cr-Co-Ni-Mn, which can be considered as "dunite association", and Ag-Ba-Pb-V-Ti-Cu-P-Sr, which includes elements typical for the dike complex of the massif and can be considered as "dyke association". Platinum demonstrates positive correlation links with elements of "dunite association" and negative relationships with elements of "dike association". Platinum tends to palladium and gold anomalies, as well as to the "dunite" association. Thus, eluvial formations of the Svetloborsky massif have significant practical importance. Their lithogeochemical sampling can serve as an effective search method for platinum metal ore mineralization in primary dunites of the massifs of such type. They can become an additional source of platinum metals during the processing of primary platinum-bearing dunites of these massifs.
